Whether xenophobia qualifies as a legitimate emotional disorder is a subject of ongoing debate.   Xenophobia and Hate The desire to belong to a group is pervasive and primal. Throughout history, those who have banded together in families, tribes or clans have thrived, while individuals who were separated by choice or circumstances faced increased dangers and limited opportunities. While strong identification with a particular group can be healthy, it can also lead to suspicion of those who do not belong. It is natural and possibly instinctive to want to protect the interests of the group by eliminating threats to those interests. Unfortunately, this natural protectiveness often causes members of a group to shun or even attack those who are perceived as different, even if they actually pose no legitimate threat at all. The twisting of a positive traitâ€"group harmony and protection from threatsâ€"into a negativeâ€"imagining threats where none existâ€"has led to any number of hate crimes, persecutions, wars, and general mistrust. Xenophobia is rare among the phobias in that it has a great potential to cause damage to others, rather than affecting only those who suffer from it. Symptoms of Xenophobia Certainly, not everyone who suffers from xenophobia starts wars or performs hate crimes. Most sufferers are able to contain their reactions and live within societal norms. They are able to look past their initial reactions and become friends with individuals who happen to fall into a particular category. A classic example occurred during the first season of the hit CBS show, Survivor. SWOT ANALYSIS: LITERATURE REVIEW: FLOW OF THE PROCESS AT SREI: CREDIT APPRAISAL: Credit Appraisal is a process to ascertain the risks associated with the extension of the credit facility. It is generally carried by the financial institutions which are involved in providing financial funding to its customers.These financial institutions appraise the technical feasibility, economic viability and bankability including creditworthiness of the prospective borrower. Credit appraisal starts from the time a prospective borrower walks into the branch and culminates in credit delivery and monitoring with the objective of ensuring and maintaining the quality of lending and managing credit risk within acceptable limits. Credit appraisal involves analysis of liquidity position/ financial soundness of the company. AIRR: Internal Rate of Return (IRR) by definition is the rate of return at which the Net Present Value of the stream of payments (repayment of installments and interest by the customer vis-à  -vis the actual disbursement made by the company) become equal to zero. FIRR: Financial IRR (FIRR) shall mean the transaction IRR without factoring any benefit available to Srei BNPP in terms of normal MOU entered into by srei BNPP with concerned manufacturer. Management fees/ RTE/ Commitment Charges collected upfront, an extra credit period, subvention or other cash incentives extracted from the manufacturer over and above those available workings. YIELD: Yield means the rate of return to Srei-BNPP from the transaction, factoring all the benefits available to Srei-BNPP under normal MOU and otherwise from the manufacturers/vendors. ETR (Excellent Track Record): ETR means peak delay of not more than 30 days and average delay of not more than 15 days for payment of dues in all existing and past accounts of the proposed customer. INTRODUCTION TO RISK: The interpretation of the word risk will determine the approach to risk management. The word risk is interpreted in three distinct senses namely risk as hazard, risk as opportunity and risk as uncertainty. Risk as hazard is the most commonly used meaning of risk and it means likely financial losses arising from negative events such as control failures, bad publicity and loss of reputation. Risk management in this context would mean eliminating possibilities of losses from such negative events by putting in place adequate control systems. Risk as an opportunity means, taking risks and earning adequate returns on them. This implies the trade-off between risk and return. Here risk management, becomes risk optimization meaning maximizing the upside potential and minimizing the downside. Here capacity and ability to manage risk is used to increase shareholders value and achieve a competitive advantage. Risk, as uncertainty is basically a statistical concept, which assumes a nor mal distribution for future outcomes. Here risk management means narrowing the difference between the expected outcomes and actual results. Banks and other similar financial institutions need to manage the risk inherent in the entire portfolio as well as the risk in individual credits or transactions. The effective management of risk is a critical component of a comprehensive approach to risk management and essential to the long-term success of any banking organization. In simple words, risk is the possibility of losses associated with decrease in the credit quality of borrowers. In a financial institution, loss may stem from default due to inability or unwillingness of a customer to meet his commitments in relation to lending, trading, settlement and other financial transactions. STEPS IN DEVELOPING OF MODEL: STEP- 1: Identification of all the key risk components in the principal business: The first step in the development of the model was the identification of the various parameters to be taken into consideration. Debt Equity Ratio: The ratio brings out the extent to which the firm is dependent on outsiders for its existence and indicates the proportion of the owners stake in the business. A high ratio means that claims of creditors are greater than owners funds. Excessive liabilities tend to cause insolvency. This is the most unfavourable situation for a banker, as he may gain the position of just one among the many creditors of the company. Current Ratio: The current ratio is an index of the concerns financial stability since it shows the extent of the working capital, which is the amount by which the current assets exceed the current liabilities. A high current ratio indicates inadequate employment of funds while a poor current ratio is a danger signal to the management. It shows that business is trading beyond its resources. Interest Coverage Ratio: It tells the analysts the extent to which the firms current earnings are able to meet current interest payments. When this ratio is high it shows that the business would earn sufficient profits to pay the interest charges periodically. A low interest coverage ratio may result in financial embarrassment. Funded Debt Ratio: The ratio of secured loans to turnover is known as Funded Debt Ratio. This ratio varies from sector to sector. A low Funded Debt Ratio is preferred. B. Operations Risk: In a competitive market, it is critical for any business unit to control its costs at all levels. To measure the operational efficiency, the turnover ratios and profitability ratios are used. They measure how efficiently the firm is employing the assets. They also represent the relationship between profit and sales, and between profit and investment. Net profit margin: The final profit figure arrived at after charging all the expenses of the firm against all its income is called net profit. A credit officer would look at the trend of net profit over the years. A company, which has been consistently achieving positive growth rates, reflects a healthy industry position and the managements commitment to the business, effective steps taken by the management to promote their sales in the market. Fixed Assets Turnover Ratio: This ratio measures the sales per rupee of investment in fixed assets or the efficiency with which fixed assets are employed. A high ratio indicates a high degree of efficiency in asset utilization and a low ratio reflects inefficient use of assets. Total Assets Turnover Ratio: This takes the total view of the business as a producing unit. It determines the produce ability of the assets of the business, which also indicates the managerial capacity of the entrepreneur in putting the assets to best use. Free Assets to Total Assets: This ratio is critical to firms employing commercial vehicles and construction equipment as it determines the level of assets available to a banker in case of default. The higher the ratio more secured the funding would be. Construction Equipment / Vehicles Turnover Ratio: This ratio measures the sales per rupee of investment in construction equipment and vehicles. In simple terms it measures the fleet strength of the clients. Experience in the Industry: Experience in the industry also helps in determining the operation risk. Percentage funding to total cost: This helps us measure the level of financial commitment of the borrower in the proposal. Lower ratio means more contribution from the borrower and the risk on the bankers end is low. Category of assets: At Srei, there are basically two types of assets: Standard assets Non-Standard Assets. The approvals, interest charged, and risk assessment is done on the basis of the category. Standard Assets are charged comparatively low interest rate with respect to Non-Standard Assets. D. Market Risk The factors influencing the relative competitive position of the customer are examined in detail. The result of these factors is reflected in the ability of the issuer to maintain or improve its market share. It may be mentioned that the customers, whose market share is declining, generally do not get favourable long-term ratings. Net Worth to Net Sales: The net worth of a business provides that important cushion to withstand shocks from adverse changes in external (economic, financial and legal) and internal environments of the business. Net worth is thus referred to as the risk capital. When compared to the sales of the business, it shows the efficiency with which the capital is rotated in the business. Technology Status Obsolescence is another problem that an industry faces. A firms competitive position is decided based on the technological competence it possesses. Advances in technology can dramatically alter a firms landscape. The firm is at an advantageous position when it holds superior technology. The risk is more among the players in the industry when the technological competence is inferior. The risk of not keeping up with the progress of changing technology may affect the growth. Hence a firm with a good technological background is more attractive. Competitions: The competitions prevailing in the market also determines the risk involved while financing a client. If there is less competition the customer is the major player then there is less risk involved and vice versa. Geographical Factors Affecting the Industry: The geographical factors where the customers are established are also taken into consideration while assessing the risk. STEP IV: ARRIVE AT THE RISK RATING ON THE RISK ASSESSMENT MODEL: Based on the information on weights which was collected from the credit team of the company, a standard and comprehensive model was developed. Each of the customers will be rated on each of the parameters based on the key provided. The final score of the customer decides the risk involved in operating with him. To aid the assessment process and to systematize the entire process, key for assessment has been developed in consultation with people well versed in this field. The key will not only quicken the assessment, but also standardizes it. The parameters in each risk category should be analysed based on the key and must be given a score. The scores should be multiplied with the weights assigned, in proportion to the importance of the parameter, to arrive at an aggregate for each risk category. Each risk category is measured separately and is also expressed as a percentage, which would help to measure the risk easily. After calculating the risks under each category, they must be summed up and the grand score will be on 1000. To get a single point indicator of the risks, it is divided by 10 and expressed as a score on 100. Based on the final score the company is given a rating by referring to the scoring guide of the model. As mentioned earlier, the grades used in the internal risk grading system should represent, without any ambiguity, the default risks associated with an exposure. Here, we employ a numeric rating scale. A numeric scale developed is such that the lower the risk, the lower is the rating on the scale. The rating scale consists of 6 levels, of which levels 0 to 2 represents various grades of acceptable credit risk and levels 3 to 5 represents various grades of unacceptable credit risk associated with an exposure. The scale, starting from 0 (which would represent lowest level credit risk and highest level of safety) and ending at 5 (which would represent the highest level of credit risk and lowest level of safety), is deployed to standar dize, benchmark, compare and monitor credit risk associated with the banks loans and give indicative guidelines for risk management activities. I hope you enjoy learning about what makes me proud of my family. So the first thing I want to talk about is my religion. I am one of the more than 7 million Jehovah’s Witnesses. Part of that number is my family. But, there are two people I really want to talk about when it comes to this. My sisters Theresa and Crystal. I admire them so much. They were baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses when they were 17. Ever since then they have served Jehovah whole-heartedly. Theresa has five children 8 and under. I have always loved how she protects me and lets me figure things out for myself. Crystal has two children 4 and 2. We fight sometimes, but I know that she always has my back. They always try their hardest to make meetings and to teach their kids about Jehovah. Even though they have both been through extremely difficult circumstances, they just keep going. For instance, Crystal has had to switch to another congregation. Now, that may not seem like it’s too hard. But it’s a Spanish speaking meeting. Her husband is from the Dominican Republic. She’s learning a new language and keeping her integrity to Jehovah. I admire her so much for that. And then, Theresa, has had numerous surgeries, while taking care of her â€Å"6† kids (her husband Scott is a kid at heart). No, actually he helps a lot. He loves her so much and helps whenever he can. Yet, they both still keep their heads up and serve Jehovah. I love them all so much and would probably go insane without them. Next, because I come from many cultures, we are always making food. A lot of its southern. For instance, my dad makes the best country fried steak ever. You know, let’s just talk about him for a moment. My mom cooked for most of their marriage. But, unfortunately my mom has been overcome with sickness, so my dad has started cooking. My dad makes some really good southern comfort food. He makes insanely good mac cheese. But, he has started to pass his recipes on to me. For instance, he used to make fried chicken. But, once I figured out how to do it, I became the â€Å"soul† fryer of chicken in my house. My dad has become such a wonderful cook over the last few years, and he’s teaching me as he goes. Besides, my mom taught him everything he knows. Well, almost everything, some he learned from the Food Network. Ha-ha. My family loves to cook. And that I am proud of. Lastly, we listen to all kinds of music. For instance, my grandma loved to sing. And she used to have me sing for her all the time before she passed. I think about her all the time. She inspired me to keep singing. And my mom has done the same thing by always encouraging me. We love music, whether country or pop. We listen to music all the time. I really don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have music. It keeps me sane. You may have noticed that a lot of music today can be about drugs, sex, or murder. I am proud of my family for steering clear of that. Some of my favorite music includes Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Josh Turner, and One Direction. I love my family’s music choices. And because of that I am proud to be in my family. So as you can see, I just ooze with family pride. My religion plays a big part in that. We always have something on the dinner table. Roman Architecture A great deal of conjecture has been expended on the question as to the genesis of the Roman basilica. For present purposes it may be sufficient to observe that the addition of aisles to the nave was so manifest a convenience that it might not improbably have been thought of, even had models not been at hand in the civic buildings of the Empire. The most suitable example that can be chosen as typical of the Roman basilica of the age of Constantine is the church of S. Maria Maggiore. And this, not merely because, in spite of certain modern alterations, it has kept in the main its original features, but also because it departs, to a lesser extent than any other extant example, from the classical ideal. The lateral colonnade is immediately surmounted by a horizontal entablature, with architrave, frieze, and cornice all complete. The monolithic columns, with their capitals, are, moreover, homogenous, and have been cut for their position, instead of being like those of so many early Christian churches, the more or less incongruous and heterogeneous spoils of older and non-Christian edifices. Of this church, in its original form, no one however decidedly his tastes may incline to some more highly developed system or style of architecture will call in question the stately and majestic beauty. The general effect is that of a vast perspective of lines of noble columns, carrying the eye forward to the altar, which, with its civory or canopy, forms so conspicuous an object, standing, framed, as it mere, within the arch of the terminal apse, which forms its immediate and appropriate background. S. Maria Maggiore is considerably smaller than were any of the other three chief basilicas of Rome (St Peter's, St. Paul's, and the Lateran). Each of these, in addition to a nave of greater length and breadth, was furnished (as may still be seen in the restored St Paul's) with a double aisle. This, however, was an advantage which was not unattended with a serious drawback from a purely esthetic point of view. For a great space of blank wall intervening between the top of the lateral colonnade and the clerestory windows was of necessity required in order to give support to the penthouse roof of the double aisle. And it is curious, to say the least, that it should not have occurred to the builders of those three basilicas to utilize a portion of the space thus enclosed, and at the same time to lighten the burden of the wall above the colonnade, by constructing a gallery above the inner aisle. It is true, of course, that such a gallery is found in the church of S. Agnese, where the low-level of the floor relatively to the surface of the ground outside may have suggested this method of construction; but whereas, in the East, the provision of a gallery (used as a gynaeceum) was usual from very early times, it never became otherwise than exceptional in the West. Taking East and West together, we find among early and medieval basilican churches examples of all the combinations that are possible in the arrangement of aisles and galleries. They are the single aisle without gallery, which is, of course, the commonest type of all; the double aisle without gallery, as in the three great Roman basilicas; the single aisle with gallery, as in S. Agnese; the double aisle with single gallery, as in St. Demetrius at Thessalonica; and finally, as a crowning example, though of a later period, the double aisle surmounted by a double gallery, as in the Duomo at Pisa. These, however, are modifications in the general design of the building. Others, not less important, though they are less obviously striking, concern the details of the construction. Of these the first was the substitution of the arch for the horizontal entablature, and the second that of the pillar of masonry for the monolithic column. The former change, which had already come into operation in the first basilica of St. Paul without the Walls, was so obviously in the nature of an improvement in point of stability that it is no matter for surprise that it should have been almost. universally adopted.
